Himalayan Shepherd is dedicated to strengthening mountain communities and safeguarding the unique ecological heritage of the Johar Valley. Through our community-driven initiatives, we empower local youth, revive traditional knowledge systems, and promote conservation rooted in the cultural fabric of the Himalayas.
Our programmes focus on biodiversity documentation, bird and butterfly monitoring, ecological awareness, and nature-guide skill development—equipping young community members with the skills needed to become custodians of their natural surroundings.

“We dream of a world that we evade creating ourself”
Himalayan Shepherd is committed to strengthening mountain communities and conserving the unique ecological heritage of the Johar Valley through a range of impactful, community-driven programmes. Our initiatives focus on youth training in biodiversity documentation, bird and butterfly monitoring, ecological awareness, nature-guide skill development, and the revival of traditional livelihoods such as handloom weaving in villages like Darkot. By integrating conservation education, cultural preservation, and sustainable livelihood models, we work to create long-term resilience for both people and the environment in the Munsyari region. Your generous support plays a vital role in enabling these efforts—helping us empower local youth, protect Himalayan flora and fauna, preserve traditional craftsmanship, and advance meaningful conservation action across the high mountains. We invite well-wishers, partners, and supporters to contribute to our mission and join us in fostering a sustainable and thriving Himalayan future.
